Abstract

  • In August 2023, of the 90 cities monitored by the national CPI, 44 cities experienced inflation and 46 cities experienced deflation. The highest inflation occurred in Manokwari at 0.55 percent and the lowest inflation at 0.01 percent occurred in DKI Jakarta, Purwokerto and Mataram. Meanwhile, the highest deflation occurred in Waingapu at 1.20 percent and the lowest deflation of 0.02 percent occurred in Bandung and Sukabumi.
  • Kalimantan Timur Province, which is a combination of 2 CPI cities, namely Samarinda and Balikpapan, in August 2023 experienced deflation of 0.02 percent, with calendar year inflation of 2.36 percent and year-on-year inflation of 3.82 percent.
  • In August 2023 there will be inflation in Samarinda City of 0.10 percent and Balikpapan City will experience deflation of 0.16 percent.
  • In general, the combined 2 CPI cities in Kalimantan Timur experienced deflation due to a decrease in the price index in 3 expenditure groups, namely: supplies, equipment and routine household maintenance by -0.46 percent; food, beverage and tobacco group by -0.44 percent; and the personal care and other services group amounted to -0.27 percent. On the other hand, several groups experienced an increase in the price index, namely: the transportation group by 0.83 percent; then the education group at 0.47 percent; recreation, sports and culture group at 0.16 percent; housing, water, electricity and household fuel group at 0.06 percent; and the health group at 0.01 percent. Meanwhile, the clothing and footwear group; information, communication, and financial services group; and the food and beverage/restaurant provision group tends to be stable in August 2023.
