Abstract

  • The increase in NTP is due the index of prices received by farmers (It)), which increased by 1.44 percent, while the index of prices paid by farmers (Ib) only increased by 0.66 percent.
  • In January 2024, the NTP for each subsector is as follows: Farmers’ Terms of Trade for Food Crops (NTPP) is 103.67; Farmers’ Terms of Trade for Horticulture Crops (NTPH) is 112.32; Farmers’ Terms of Trade for Smallholders Estate Crops (NTPR) is 171.49; Farmers’ Terms of Trade for Animal Husbandry (NTPT) is 106.05; and Farmers’ Terms of Trade for Fishery (NTNP) is 98.34.
  • In January 2024, there were three subsectors that experienced an increase in NTP: the food crops subsector (1.67 percent), the smallholders estate crops subsector (1.99 percent), and the animal husbandry subsector (0.20 percent). On the other hand, two other subsectors experienced a decline: the horticulture subsector (-4.37 percent) and the fisheries subsector (-1.16 percent).
  • Agriculture’s Terms of Trade (NTUP) in January 2024 was 134.52 or an increase of 1.22 percent compared to the NTUP in December 2023 which was recorded at 132.90. There were three subsectors that experienced an increase in NTUP: the food crops subsector (2.30 percent), smallholders estate crops subsector (2.31 percent), and the animal husbandry subsector (0.34 percent). On the other hand, two subsectors experienced a decrease in NTUP: the horticulture subsector (-3.62 percent) and the fisheries subsector (-0.60 percent).
