Abstract

  • In September 2023, the export value of Kalimantan Timur Province was recorded at $1.90 billion, which is a decrease of 5.88 percent compared to the export value in August 2023. When compared to September 2022, the export value decreased by 42.72 percent.
  • Non-oil and gas exports in September 2023 amounted to $1.70 billion, which is a decrease of 3.00 percent compared to August 2023.
  • Cumulatively, the oil and gas export value of Kalimantan Timur Province from January to September 2023 reached $1.95 billion, a decrease of 7.12 percent compared to the same period in 2022. Meanwhile, the non-oil and gas export value reached $18.46 billion.
  • The largest increase in non-oil and gas export value in September 2023 compared to August 2023 was in the category of mineral fuel products, which increased by $40.99 million (3.11 percent). The largest decrease occurred in the category of animal/vegetable fats and oils, which decreased by $118.04 million (-33.27 percent).
  • During the period of January-September 2023, China was the main export destination with the largest share, accounting for $5,908.56 million (32.00 percent), followed by India with $2,565.69 million (13.90 percent), and the Philippines with $1,766.21 million (9.57 percent).
  • By sector, non-oil and gas exports in Kalimantan Timur Province decreased by 23.33 percent during the period from January to September 2023 compared to the same period in 2022. This decrease was contributed to by a 24.53 percent decrease in mining exports and a 25.84 percent decrease in industrial exports.
  • The three ports that contributed the most to the total export value of Kalimantan Timur Province in September 2023 were Samarinda Port ($464.88 million), Balikpapan Port ($454.93 million), and Bontang Port ($341.98 million).
  • The import value of Kalimantan Timur Province in September 2023 was recorded at $466.59 million, an increase of 14.81 percent compared to the import value in August 2023. When compared to the import value in September 2022, it experienced a 66.23 percent increase.
  • The import value of oil and gas in September 2023 was $363.59 million, an increase of 43.26 percent compared to August 2023, and a 133.45 percent increase compared to September 2022. The import value of non-oil and gas in September 2023 was $103.00 million, a decrease of 32.50 percent compared to August 2023, and a 17.56 percent decrease compared to September 2022.
  • In September 2023, the largest percentage increase in non-oil and gas imports was in the category of inorganic chemical products, which saw an increase of 309.98 percent. On the other hand, the largest percentage decrease in non-oil and gas imports occurred in the category of rubber and rubber products, with a decrease of 69.27 percent.
  • The three largest suppliers of non-oil and gas imports during January-September 2023 were China at $236.00 million with a 20.64 percent share, followed by the United States at $148.37 million with a 12.97 percent share, and South Korea at $103.73 million with a 9.07 percent share.
  • In terms of the usage of imported goods, during January-September 2023, the import value for consumer goods and raw materials/auxiliaries increased by 14.12 percent and 8.68 percent, respectively, compared to the same period the previous year. On the other hand, capital goods decreased by 7.04 percent.
  • The trade balance of Kalimantan Timur Province in September 2023 recorded a surplus of $1,437.83 million. The non-oil and gas sector had a surplus of $1,594.29 million, while the oil and gas sector had a deficit of $156.47 million.
