Why is April 28 celebrated as National Poetry Day?

This date was designated as national poetry day to commemorate the death of one of the nation's best poets, namely Chairil Anwar. He died on April 28 1949. Chairil Anwar produced many works of poetry that inspired the world of Indonesian literature.

The commemoration of Poetry Day also aims to empower and introduce literary works to the nation's future generations.
