Abstract

  • The export value of Kalimantan Timur Province in August 2023 was recorded at US$2.02 billion, or an increase of 4.84 percent compared to the export value of July 2023. When compared with August 2022, the export value decreased by 45.43%.
  • Non-oil and gas exports in August 2023 were recorded at US$1.75 billion, or an increase of 1.62 percent compared to July 2023.
  • Cumulatively, the oil and gas export value of Kalimantan Timur Province during January–August 2023 reached US$1.74 billion or decreased by 6.03 percent compared to the same period in 2022. Meanwhile the value of non-oil and gas exports reached US$16.76 billion.
  • The largest increase in the value of non-oil and gas exports in August 2023 compared to July 2023 occurred in the animal or vegetable fats and oils category, which increased by US$ 93.33 million (35.70 percent), while the largest decrease in value occurred in the mineral fuel goods category, amounting to US$ 78 million. .12 million (-5.60 percent).
  • In the January–August 2023 period, China is the main export destination country that has the largest role with an export value of US$5,328.59 million (31.78 percent), followed by India with a value of US$2,267.59 million (13.53 percent), and the Philippines amounting to US$1,617.58 million (9.65 percent).
  • By sector, during the January-August 2023 period, Kalimantan Timur Province's non-oil and gas exports fell by 21.82 percent compared to the same period in 2022. The decline was contributed by a decline in exports of mining products by 20.86 percent and exports of industrial products by 26.44 percent.
  • The three ports that provide the largest contribution to the total export value of Kalimantan Timur Province in August 2023 are Balikpapan Port (US$579.50 million), Samarinda Port (US$464.34 million), and Tanjung Bara Port (US$413.12 million).
  • The import value of Kalimantan Timur Province in August 2023 was recorded at US$406.38 million, or a decrease of 11.08 percent compared to the import value in July 2023. When compared with the import value in August 2022, it decreased by 5.23 percent.
  • The oil and gas import value in August 2023 was US$253.79 million, or a decrease of 22.82 percent compared to the import value in July 2023, whereas when compared with the import value in August 2022, it increased by 3.88 percent.
  • The non-oil and gas import value in August 2023 was US$ 152.59 million, or an increase of 19.03 percent compared to the import value in July 2023, whereas when compared with the import value in August 2022, it decreased by 17.29 percent.
  • In August 2023, the largest percentage increase in imports of non-oil and gas goods was the mineral fuel goods category which experienced an increase of 19,524.48 percent. On the other hand, the largest percentage decline in imports of non-oil and gas goods occurred in machinery and electrical equipment and their parts at 48.71 percent.
  • The three largest suppliers of non-oil and gas imported goods during January–August 2023 were China at US$219.84 million with a role of 21.13 percent, followed by the United States at US$129.91 million with a role of 12.48 percent, and South Korea at US$95. .73 million with a role of 9.20 percent.
  • According to goods use groups, during January–August 2023 the value of imports of consumer goods and raw/auxiliary materials increased by 20.88 percent and 3.10 percent respectively when compared to the same period in the previous year. On the other hand, capital goods fell by 7.02 percent.
  • The trade balance of Kalimantan Timur Province in August 2023 experienced a surplus of US$1,616.84 million. The trade balance in the non-oil and gas sector recorded a surplus of US$1,597.08 million and the oil and gas sector recorded a surplus of US$19.76 million.
